Seminole Beach: Home
Where am I today? At home looking at 2 fabulous gifts somebody just sent me. One is framed photo of The Rolling Stones - Mick, Keith and Ronnie - taking their final bow on their concert tour in Atlanta. The other is a framed poster of the set list for the show.
I got a ticket for the Hackney Diamonds Tour as a Christmas present and I flew to Atlanta to see them in June with mixed feelings. I was excited because they were The Rolling Stones after all - rock band legends who’d been playing for 6 decades. They were known for their electrifying performances, high energy and stamina.
I was also apprehensive because they were rock legends who’d been playing for 6 decades. Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood are 80 years old and Keith Richards is 78. How depressing was it going to be to see wrinkled old men, legends or not, on those giant LED screens every concert displays?
As they say in England, no worries. Did the jumbo screens show every wrinkle on their faces? Absolutely. Did anybody care? Absolutely not. The Mercedes Benz stadium where they played seats 70,000+ people and all of them went wild when The Stones took the stage. They stood for the first 40 minutes of the show.
I know because I was tired after 10 minutes of watching Mick strut, jump, swagger and shot out lyrics as he ran back and forth the length of the stage, then down the center runway. He was amazing. They were all amazing.
And the best thing was seeing how much they loved and enjoyed what they were doing. That’s what I want to do when I’m 80 - drain every drop of joy from whatever the hell I’m doing.
Until next time . . .
